The Lootka Computer Turn On (CtOn) is a high quality state of the art microprocessor based device that can give you added security and the ability to turn your computer (or any other devices) ON and OFF remotely by using any touch tone phone.
When you call CtOn; it answers the phone and asks for your password. Upon receiving a valid password, CtOn turns your computer on and automatically loads your favorite communication software. You have the choice to load eleven different programs remotely. With CtOn you can access your computer from anywhere in the world, any time with the same phone line that your modem is using. With this intelligent device you do not have to leave your computer ON at all time, just because you may need to use it later. The CtOn will turn your computer ON only when you need it and will turn it OFF when you are done with it. CtOn will help you save energy and wear and tear. Even when you have to leave your computer on at all time for some reason, if your remote computer hangs up, you may use your CtOn to reset it and bring it back to life.

If you do not have eleven different programs that you want to be loaded automatically, then you may delete those that you will not use. For example if you only have two different programs that you want to be loaded automatically, then you may delete all of the lines from line "IF ERRORLEVEL 3 IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 4 GOTO LOOP3" up to the line before "LOOP1", and also from the line "LOOP3" to the line ":END". Do not delete last line ":END".
The CTSRMT program accepts two options: the first one is the serial port number that can be zero for no serial port, or 1,2,3,4 for COM1, COM2, COM3, and COM4. The second parameter is the time out value, which can be any number between 1 to 99. This time out value is used to wait for response from CtOn or a key to be pressed on keyboard. The default values are 1 for COM1 serial port and 25 for time out value. If you use the communication link and you are using serial port COM2, use CTSRMT /2. If you do not have the communication link, then use CTSRMT /0. If the time out delay is too slow or too fast for your computer then use CTSRMT //75 to make the time out longer or use CTSRMT //10 to make the time out shorter. For example if you want to use serial port COM2 and time out value 65 then use CTSRMT /2/65.
Copy the CTSRMT.EXE file to the root directory of your drive C or your boot up drive. The CTSRMT.EXE file is on the floppy diskette you have received. Also there is an AUTOEXEC.BAT file that you may use if you do not have a AUTOEXEC.BAT file on your computer.
If you have the CtOn communication link, this link will notify your computer whether or not to load your communication software. This link is also capable of instructing your computer to load one of the of eleven different software programs you have selected under installation.
The floppy diskette that you have received with your CtOn package has the following files on it:
CTLINK.EXE:
Communication program between CtOn and your computer via serial port. You need the communication link to use this software.
CTSRMT.EXE:
This program detects if your computer was Turned on Remotely or Locally. Use CTSRMT /0 if you do not have the communication link.
CTON.EXE:
Program to turn ON, the device (computer) connected to CtOn outlet from keyboard or from within an application program.
CTOFF.EXE:
Program to turn OFF, the device (computer) connected to CtOn outlet from keyboard or from within an application program.
AUTOEXEC.BAT:
A sample batch file to be used with CtOn.
Note: Use / Option to indicate the serial port you want to use with CtOn communication link. For example to use COM2, the command will be CTLINK /2, and for COM3 type CTLINK /3, and for COM4 use CTLINK /4.
The communication link is the special RS232 cable that connects between your computer serial port and the CtOn RJ11 jack.
To issue any command, or change the programmed parameters in the CtOn you may call CtOn from any touch tone phone, or you may use a touch tone phone locally directly connected to CtOn. If you have purchased the optional communication link you may use your computer (recommended method) to change parameters like Passwords, Timer, Ring Counter, and so on.
If you call CtOn remotely wait for CtOn to answer the phone. When CtOn picks up the phone, if your password checking feature is activated, type in your Password followed by the "#" sign. If your password checking feature is disabled then just press the "#" sign and then you may issue any of the commands listed and explained below.
If you want to issue command using a touch tone phone locally then just plug the phone to the jack provided on the back of CtOn. To issue a command pick up the phone, if your password checking feature is activated, type in your Password followed by the "#" sign. If your password checking feature is disabled then just press the "#" sign and then you may issue any of the commands listed and explained below.
Correcting a mistake is easy, if you make a mistake in typing your password press the "#" sign, CtOn will hang up the phone, then you may call back and try again. To correct mistakes after you have entered your password, press the "#" sign two or three times to get back to the beginning of command processor and try your command again. If you are lost and do not know where you are as far as entering a command, the best thing to do is just hang up the phone, wait at least 30 seconds, then call back and start form the beginning. To enter a rather log command, or multiple commands, the best thing to do is write down the sequence on a piece of paper before calling the CtOn. When CtOn picks up the phone, you have to start entering your password or a command within 20 seconds. Otherwise, CtOn will hang up the phone. In other words, you have a maximum of 20 seconds to press any number on your telephone keypad. It does not mean that you have 20 seconds to enter your entire password or command.
To use your computer for changing parameters refer to section titled "Communication Link". see next page for command summery.

One long beep indicates an error in sequence of command you just entered on your phone key pad. Two beeps indicates that the command was received and executed okay.
[1] TURNING THE COMPUTER ON
Format: 1# or 1(0 to 9 or *)#
To turn your computer ON, Press 1, followed by any number from 0 to 9 or the "*" sign, then press the "#" sign. The computer will be turned ON, and the one digit code that you have entered before the "#" sign will be transmitted to the computer. If you type 1 and then the "#" it will transmit code 1 to your computer which is the same as typing 11#. If you have, or want to use only one communication program then use 1# format. Do not use 1 followed by a number and then the "#" sign. Now you may issue any other command or press 4 (H as Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 18#
This will turn the computer ON and send code 8 to the attached computer. The computer will turn on, and your software application number 8 will be loaded.
[4] HANGING UP THE PHONE
Format: 4# To hang up press 4 followed by the "#" sign.
Example: 4# CtOn will hang up the phone immediately.
[6] CHANGING THE RING COUNTER
Format: 6(0 to 9 or *)#
The Ring Counter is the number of rings that CtOn counts before answering any call. Press 6, then press the desired Ring Number, (a number from 0 to 9 or the "*" star sign) followed by the "#" sign. Note that if you press 0, the CtOn will answer the phone after tenth ring and if you press *, the CtOn will answer the phone after eleventh ring. Now you may issue any other command, or press 4 (H as in Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 63# This will make the CtOn pick up the phone after 3 rings.
[7] CHANGING A PASSWORD
Format: 7(0 to 9 or *)password#
Press 7 then the desired Password Number, (a number from 0 to 9, and the "*" star sign) followed by the password, which can be from one to eleven digits long. To end the command press the "#" sign. Note that if you press 0, as password number, you will be changing the Master Password, and if you press the "*" star sign you will be changing password number ten. Also note that the first digit of a password can not be the "*" sign. Now you may issue any other command, or press 4 (H as in Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 7245*67346*4# This will change password number 2 to 45*67346*4.
[7] DELETING A PASSWORD
Format: 7(1 to 9 or *)*#
Deleting a password is like changing that password to a blank. To delete a password press 7 and the desired Password Number, (a number from 1 to 9 and the "*" sign), and then the "*" sign followed by the "#" sign. Note that you can not delete the Master Password, you can only delete passwords number 1 to 10. Now you may issue any other command, or press 4 (H as in Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 72*# This will delete password number 2.
[9] ENABLE/DISABLE PASSWORD CHECKING
Format: 91# or 90#
To enable the password checking feature of CtOn Press 9, then 1, followed by the "#" sign. To disable the password checking feature of CtOn Press 9, then 0, followed by the "#" sign. If you disable the password checking, the CtOn will not wait for any password, and will execute all commands as they are entered, and any one can change any parameters including Master Password. Now you may issue any other command, or press 4 (H as in Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 91#
This will activate the password checking feature. From this point on the callers must enter a valid password to use the CtOn.
[0] TURNING THE COMPUTER OFF
Format: 0#Press 0, followed by the "#" sign. The attached computer will be turned OFF immediately.
Now you may issue any other command, or press 4 (H as in Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: 0# This will turn the computer Off.
[*] CHANGING THE RING DELAY
Format: *(0 to 9)#
The Ring Delay is the amount of delay time in seconds, multiplied by eight. This is the maximum elapsed time between two consecutive rings. If the elapsed time between two consecutive rings is less than the Delay Time, then CtOn counts these two rings as two valid rings. Suppose you have connected your answering machine, your computer's Modem, and the CtOn to the same phone line at your office. If your answering machine is set to answer the phone after two rings, and you want to turn your computer On remotely, set the CtOn Ring Counter to 3 and the Ring Delay to 4 (the delay time will be 4 times 8 equal 32 seconds). Now call your office, let the phone ring one time, then hang up. Wait 5 seconds, call again and wait for the phone to ring one time and hang up. Do this one more time and your CtOn, but not the answering machine, will answer the phone and you can turn your computer On. In this special case, you should have set your modem to auto-answer to pick up the phone on first ring. This Ring Delay feature is also very useful in your office when all incoming calls will be transferred to another extension after 2 or three rings.
To change the Ring Delay press the "*" sign, then press the desired Ring Delay value, (a number from 0 to 9) followed by the "#" sign. Note that if you press 0 as ring delay value the CtOn will wait up to (10 times 8 = 80) 80 seconds to receive next ring and count it as a valid ring. Now you may issue any other command or press 4 (H as Hang up) followed by the "#" sign to end the call and hang up.
Example: *6#
This will make the CtOn to wait up to 6 X 8 = 48 seconds to receive next ring after receiving the first ring.
[#] END OR CANCEL
The "#" sign is used as the end of command, end of Password, or end of Phone number marker. You can use this "#" sign to cancel a command, in all places when you are expected to enter a number.
The communication link, option CtOnOPT1, enables you to communicate with CtOn through your computer's serial port. With this link you can alter all parameters of CtOn including those parameters that you can not change using a touch tone telephone set.
To install this link plug one side of the cable to the back of CtOn and the other side to the serial port of your computer. You can use COM1, COM2, COM3, or COM4. The default COM port is COM1. If you want to use COM2, COM3, or COM4, then you must use the "/" option to tell the CtOn which port you want to use. For COM2 use CTLNIK/2, for COM3 use CTILNK/3, and so on. After you have made the connection, copy the CTLINK.EXE program mentioned above to your boot up drive or drive C, then type CTLINK. For example if you have connected the CtOn link to serial port 4, type CTLINK/4 and press Enter. The following messages will be displayed on your computer monitor:
